Instructions:
1. Either paint the shoe box inside and outside a color using paint as a teacher, or have the students do it if there is time.
2. While waiting for the paint to dry, encourage students to first brainstorm what they want to put inside the box. Ask them to describe themselves internally, such as personality, likes or dislikes, etc..
3. Have students decorate the interior with materials that might describe themselves. Maybe that means listing words or pictures about their personality, or likes or dislikes. Or they can use clay models to make hobbies, foods, or other interests.
3. While the inside is drying, possibly due to glue, have the students explain and reflect on their artistic decisions by instructing them to write a couple of sentences on explanations.
4. When the inside is dry, have the students decorate the outside of the box. This can include external appearances like their hair color or eye color. This can also include more complex ideas, like how they might think other peers view them. For example, are they notable for playing a sport, do they have a nickname, etc.?
5. Again, have the students reflect on their artistic designs on the outside of the box.
