Color Your Emotions

Utilized already in many classrooms, the fun, colorful, calming jars are perfect for not only entertainment but also for emotional regulation.

List of Materials Needed:

- Mason jar or water bottle (Eos water bottles can be very neat)

- glitter or other kinds of waterproof decoration

- water

- tray to catch the water

- towels or napkins for clean up

- food dye (optional)

- super glue (optional)

Instructions:

1. Start the activity in the tray to avoid a mess.

2. Have students decorate their empty container by dumping in glitter, food dyes, and other kinds of decoration.

3. Go around the classroom and fill out each bottle/jar with water.

4. If you want to, you can also glue the caps shut to avoid future accidents from occurring.

5. When students are feeling overwhelmed, redirect them to this activity. Have them play with the jar while emphasizing the importance of recognizing these emotions, and encourage them to communicate out loud about what they are feeling internally.
